WoW Raid Strategy Planner — Draw Boss Positioning, M+ Routes, and Pull Plans

"Stack on me." "Where?" "On me." "WHERE?" "JUST LOOK AT— okay everyone's dead."

Combat logs record the results of raid comms like that one. Deaths scatter across completely different spots. Soaks get handled by zero people, or by seven. "I thought YOU were getting that" costs 15 minutes of progression time. What the raid needed was a picture everyone could look at before the pull, which is what Strategy Board, a new tool on WowCoach, lets you draw and share to plan your pulls.

Strategy Board for raid and M+ planning

Strategy Board is a built-in planning tool for creating, editing and sharing tactical diagrams for any boss encounter or M+ route. Think of it as a whiteboard for groups that have noticed "just spread out" is not a strategy.

Drawing tools

The basics cover most of what a raid leader needs. Freehand drawing circles danger zones, sketches movement or scrawls "CERTAIN DEATH" in the corner where one DPS keeps standing. Arrows show movement paths, tank swap positions and which way the boss should face (and which way it definitely shouldn't). Raid markers, from Skull, Cross, Circle and Square to Moon, Triangle, Diamond and Star, go exactly where they belong, so "stack on skull" no longer means three different places depending on who you ask.

Ability icons

There are 14 mechanic icons, enough for nearly every situation a raid can get wrong. Drag them onto the map, then resize and rotate them to build a visual language your raid can read.

Text labels and sticky notes

Some things need to be written down: "HEALER COOLDOWNS HERE," "Bloodlust at 30%," "This is where we wiped 47 times last week." Text labels go anywhere on the map, and sticky notes carry color-coded instructions. Nobody can claim they didn't know while standing on the exact spot marked "DO NOT STAND HERE" in bright yellow.

Grid and snap-to-grid

For the organizationally inclined, a grid overlay can be toggled on, resized and set to snap, so markers line up cleanly. A tidy diagram is easier to take seriously.

Sharing a board

Each board has one of three visibility settings. Private boards are just for you, a place to tinker until the plan is right. Guild boards are shared with your guild, so everyone can see the plan, and everyone can see who isn't following it. Public boards open to anyone with the link, which suits Discord posts, forum guides and the occasional pointed link after a wipe.

Sharing is one click: hit the share button, copy the link and paste it in Discord. The next time someone says they didn't see the strategy, you have a link for them.

Desktop and mobile

On desktop you build boards with the full sidebar. On mobile you review them with a streamlined bottom toolbar, and the board adapts to the screen. That helps when you are sitting in queue on your phone, pretending you remember where to stand for Phase 3.

Tags

Each board takes up to 10 tags, and you can filter boards by dungeon, raid, boss, difficulty or whatever system suits you. That beats scrolling through 47 boards named "strat final v2 REAL final this time."

Why plan your pulls visually

Every progression raid has the same moment. The raid leader spends five minutes explaining a mechanic, everyone says "got it," the pull starts, someone immediately does the wrong thing, and the raid wipes at 90%. "Did you not understand?" "I thought you meant the OTHER side."

A strategy diagram is worth at least one fewer wipe per night, and over a progression tier that adds up to hours. (Diagnose the cause first, so the next diagram fixes the right thing: see how to figure out why you wiped.)

Mythic+ groups can map an entire route, marking skips and dangerous packs, so the plan everyone references is the diagram, not one player typing "trust me" while pulling three packs into a patrol. (Heading into Voidspire? The Midnight raid prep guide lists boss-by-boss diagram targets.)

How to use it

1. Go to Strategy Boards to see your boards or create a new one
2. Pick a map: your raid or dungeon background
3. Draw your strategy with markers, icons, arrows and text
4. Share it: copy the link and post it in Discord
5. Update it. If the strategy isn't working, edit it between pulls; the board saves automatically. (For pull-by-pull replay alongside the diagram, see Fight Replay screencasting.)

There is no complicated setup and no external tool.

What it won't do

A board won't make raiders follow the strategy. It will remove "I didn't know" as an excuse, give you something to point at the fifteenth time someone asks where to go, and make it obvious you prepared for the boss instead of winging it. Whether they listen is between them and their keyboard.
