What causes the first death on a wipe

The ability behind the first player death of each Mythic wipe. The first death usually starts the wipe.

    • Counter: Stomp, then sidestep at once; never stand on the line between a stomped droplet and the Breath.
    • Counter: Blood team: keep out of the lane toward the Breath, since droplets on your side fly all the way across. Breath tank: back the boss into a corner after nearby stomps so lines hit it from behind.
    • Counter: Each team stomps the droplets on its own half: 20 land per cast, so one per player and a second only above 70% health.
    • Counter: Each stomp cost ~250k in the logs; never take three unless immune. Sidestep after stomping: the venom flies back to the Breath 4 s later.
    • Raids that kill Entombed Sentinels lose 39% fewer players per minute to Mark of Blood than raids that wipe.
    • Counter: Stacks peak in the last 20 s before each Vitriolic Stasis: healers plan a raid cooldown there, and the team takes the other boss after every Stasis so the old stacks fall off.
    • Counter: Hold the Blood 40+ yards from the Breath; never stand between them, where you stack both marks at once.
    • Raids that kill Entombed Sentinels lose 66% fewer players per minute to Mark of Acid than raids that wipe.
    • Counter: Stacks peak in the last 20 s before each Vitriolic Stasis: healers plan a raid cooldown there, and the team takes the other boss after every Stasis so the old stacks fall off.
    • Counter: Never stand between the Sentinels: inside 40 yards of both you stack both marks at once.
    • Counter: Breath team: kill the slime add within 10 s of its spawn; each 3 s pulse hits all 20 players for ~77k (measured).
    • Counter: Healers: raid cooldown if it lives past 10 s, most of all late in a cycle when mark stacks are high.
    • Raids that kill Entombed Sentinels lose 43% fewer players per minute to Shifting Protovenom than raids that wipe.
    • Counter: Pre-spread before it lands; each side's 4 carriers pair up on their own side at once, nearest carrier with nearest carrier.
    • Counter: Everyone without it steps 10 yards away from carriers first; carriers then walk only to another carrier and never cross to the other team.
    • Raids that kill Entombed Sentinels almost never lose a player to Protovenom Eruption.
    • Counter: Players without the debuff keep 10+ yards from carriers until every pair has cleared; carriers walk only to another carrier.
    • Counter: Stay off the edge while carriers are active: a knockback there throws players into the venom.
    • Counter: Whole Blood team stacks on the marked player at the room edge or on old pools and stays until it erupts; more soakers means a smaller hit each.
    • Counter: Each soaker took ~320k in the logged Mythic pull and eruptions killed up to three at once: top the group off before the 8 s end.

About these numbers

Every percentage comes from The Venomous Abyss pulls uploaded to WowCoach since September 1, 2026. A difficulty appears only once there are enough wipes and kills for the shares to hold steady. Counters are WowCoach's coaching notes for each ability. For full fight strategy, read the boss guides at Icy Veins and Wowhead.
