What causes the first death on a wipe
The ability behind the first player death of each Mythic wipe. The first death usually starts the wipe.
- Counter: Stay out of the Soul Transfer beam until it detonates, about 25 s into the intermission and again 15 s after the first Echo dies; melee wait for the blast before running in.
- Counter: Then kill each Echo of Jawae fast while cleaving nearby Amani: the longer an Echo lives, the more Hungering Pyre casts and add waves you take.
- Raids that kill Nek'zali the Soulcoiler lose 57% fewer players per minute to Possession Barrage than raids that wipe.
- Counter: Place the boss and tank so the active tank can run 30+ yards straight away from the raid on every cast and hold there until the echoes land.
- Counter: Nobody else stands between Nek'zali and the tank: an echo that hits someone early bursts harder on the whole raid.
- Raids that kill Nek'zali the Soulcoiler lose 61% fewer players per minute to Soulcoil Rite than raids that wipe.
- Counter: Healers stack raid cooldowns on the Rite bursts: the pull, about 73 s later, and each Invoke in Phase 2; nobody feeds the well in between.
- Counter: Every extra Rite is raid damage plus 5 energy toward Uncoiled Rage, so a leaked add costs far more than its own hit.
- Raids that kill Nek'zali the Soulcoiler almost never lose a player to Vessel of Awakening.
- Counter: Burn every corpse before the first intermission add wave, about 55 s in: tank the Echo on the corpse pile for each Hungering Pyre and put flame carriers on the strays.
- Counter: Kill Phase 1 adds in one or two clumps on the boss so the corpses lie together; each corpse that reawakens adds its own 5-second raid pulse.
- Raids that kill Nek'zali the Soulcoiler lose 54% fewer players per minute to Latent Cultist than raids that wipe.
- Counter: Never stand in or path through a pool, even while carrying a flame to a corpse; after each Phase 2 Invoke, check where the pools moved before you move.
- Counter: Drop the pools on the outer edge away from the add coffins and the corpse piles, so flame carriers and the well team have a clear path.
- Raids that kill Nek'zali the Soulcoiler lose 66% fewer players per minute to Immortal Coil than raids that wipe.
- Counter: Only the assigned well team goes in, nobody with Soul Exhaustion re-enters, and the team leaves the moment the Drowned Echo dies.
- Counter: The team's healer keeps everyone topped inside; if Grasping Depths pulls you toward the well, walk out before you reach it.
- Raids that kill Nek'zali the Soulcoiler lose 77% fewer players per minute to Swirling Spirit than raids that wipe.
- Counter: Inside the well, watch the spirits' rotation and step through the gaps; never cross two in a row.
- Counter: Also dodge the lines the Drowned Echo fires; the team healer spot-heals anyone who takes a stack.
- Raids that kill Nek'zali the Soulcoiler lose 91% fewer players per minute to Hungering Pyre than raids that wipe.
- Counter: Tanks, melee DPS, immobile healers and the next well team stack in the circle; the tank drags the Echo onto the biggest corpse pile before each cast.
- Counter: Ranged stay out on purpose to carry flames to the stray corpses; never leave a small group to soak alone.

- Counter: Each Possession Barrage echo adds a stack on Heroic, so never run out already near 6.

- Counter: Targets walk to the outer edge of the room, away from the well, the raid and the add coffins, and only then call for the dispel.
- Counter: Healers wait until the target reaches the edge; the target stays 6+ yards from others, because the spawn bursts where they stand.

- Counter: Still kill the adds on the boss: stopping them before the well matters more than the stacks.
- Counter: Place the boss and tank so the active tank can run 30+ yards straight away from the raid on every cast and hold there until the echoes land.
- Counter: Nobody else stands between Nek'zali and the tank: an echo that hits someone early bursts harder on the whole raid.

About these numbers
Every percentage comes from The Venomous Abyss pulls uploaded to WowCoach since September 1, 2026. A difficulty appears only once there are enough wipes and kills for the shares to hold steady. Counters are WowCoach's coaching notes for each ability. For full fight strategy, read the boss guides at Icy Veins and Wowhead.
