What causes the first death on a wipe

The ability behind the first player death of each Heroic wipe. The first death usually starts the wipe.

    • Counter: Watch which wing she pulls back and run to the opposite side, then dodge the tail's waves about 3 s later; she alternates wings, so set up for the next cast at once.
    • Counter: Never carry an egg into a wave: a wave-hit egg hatches a Viper and Putrid Membrane hits the whole raid.
  1. Melee hits24%
    • Raids that kill Ula'tek lose 70% fewer players per minute to Melee hits than raids that wipe.
    • Raids that kill Ula'tek lose 91% fewer players per minute to Blight Vein than raids that wipe.
    • Counter: Snap tethers two at a time on the raid leader's call, pairs spanning both platforms, and wait for Blight Vein to fall off the raid before the next pair; three pairs clears all six.
    • Counter: Healers put a raid cooldown on the first snaps.
    • Raids that kill Ula'tek lose 67% fewer players per minute to Virulent Spit than raids that wipe.
    • Counter: Move out of each swirl the moment it appears during the barrages at about 3:13, 3:33, 3:53 and 4:13; tethered players are slowed, so they move first.
    • Counter: Egg carriers route around the swirls on the way to the cauldron.
    • Raids that kill Ula'tek lose 40% fewer players per minute to Necrotic Vapors than raids that wipe.
    • Counter: Healers ramp raid healing as the stacks climb, and everyone uses a personal defensive or healthstone when low instead of waiting on the next tick.
    • Counter: It is usually the last tick after a bigger hit (a wave, a coil soak or a Blight Vein snap), so fix that hit and heal the raid back up before the next one.
    • Raids that kill Ula'tek lose 82% fewer players per minute to Spectral Coils than raids that wipe.
    • Counter: Split into two assigned soak groups before the pull: in Phase 1 each group stacks in one of the two coils beside the tail, and in the intermission group one soaks casts 1, 3, and 5 and group two soaks 2, 4, and 6.
    • Counter: Soul Constrictor stops a soaker from reducing the next coil for about 6 s, so nobody soaks two casts in a row; only the Ula'tek tank stays out.
    • Raids that kill Ula'tek almost never lose a player to Unchecked Rage.
    • Counter: Keep a tank in Ula'tek's melee range whenever she is not casting: pick her up the moment the eggs pull her, be at the bubbles when she resurfaces at about 1:04, and get back into the red pool after each Mother's Wrath.
    • Counter: If both tanks die, anyone steps into melee immediately; it repeats until someone is there.
    • Counter: As soon as the bite is leeched, every soaker spreads at least 7 yards from everyone else before the purge erupts 5 s later; never run back into the group while it is up.
    • Counter: Never touch the venom while purged: it hits you three times as hard.

What causes the first death on a wipe

The ability behind the first player death of each Normal wipe. The first death usually starts the wipe.

    • Raids that kill Ula'tek lose 46% fewer players per minute to Caustic Waves than raids that wipe.
  1. Melee hits10%
    • Raids that kill Ula'tek lose 62% fewer players per minute to Melee hits than raids that wipe.
    • Raids that kill Ula'tek lose 87% fewer players per minute to Unchecked Rage than raids that wipe.
    • Counter: Keep a tank in Ula'tek's melee range whenever she is not casting: be at the bubbles before she resurfaces, and get back into the red pool at once after each Mother's Wrath.
    • Counter: If both tanks die, anyone steps into melee immediately; it repeats until someone is there.
    • Raids that kill Ula'tek lose 69% fewer players per minute to Stone Venom than raids that wipe.
    • 35% of the players it kills are tanks.
    • Counter: Healers keep the Wrath target topped until the stacks fall off, and tanks swap on every Caustic Waves so one tank's stacks expire before their next Wrath.
    • Raids that kill Ula'tek lose 48% fewer players per minute to Necrotic Vapors than raids that wipe.
    • Counter: Stop Vipers at the source: carry every egg into a Spectral Coils soak or kill it so it breaks into a Rawling, and never let an egg touch a wave or the venom.
    • Counter: An egg nobody breaks also hatches a Viper by itself when its cast bar finishes, so get every egg into the next Spectral Coils soak or DPS it down before then.
    • Raids that kill Ula'tek lose 87% fewer players per minute to Spectral Coils than raids that wipe.
    • Counter: Everyone but the player holding Ula'tek stacks in each coil beside the tail as it lands, carrying eggs in so the impact breaks them into Rawlings.
    • Counter: In the intermission move together from coil to coil and soak each one, then stand at the side of the platform, not the middle, as it shatters into four.
    • Counter: Grab the eggs in your assigned area at good health and carry them into your next Spectral Coils soak instead of holding them longer; the damage stops when the egg breaks.
    • Counter: Keep carried eggs away from waves and the venom, and if your health runs low, get into the next soak early or have the egg broken.

About these numbers

Every percentage comes from The Venomous Abyss pulls uploaded to WowCoach since September 1, 2026. A difficulty appears only once there are enough wipes and kills for the shares to hold steady. Counters are WowCoach's coaching notes for each ability. For full fight strategy, read the boss guides at Icy Veins and Wowhead.
